Build and Design

The Booq Boa Courier 15 is a messenger style laptop bag with a high-end feel. The bag is made from a 1680 denier ballistic nylon exterior fabric with a water-repellent coating. The interior is made from a soft herringbone nylon material that is also water repellent. The bag measures 18.5 x 11.42x 4.72 inches. It is lightweight — coming in at only 2.60 lbs. The bag includes a seatbelt nylon shoulder strap with removable pad and removable stabilizer strap. The bag is designed to be carried messenger style across your back. The bag can also be carried across your chest hanging close to your hip, but when carried this way the bag is a bit cumbersome and slightly unruly as it easily bumps into objects that are in its proximity.

The Boa Courier bag has plenty of compartments The inside of the bag includes a space for a 15-inch laptop with a Velcro strap to hold it in place, two pen holders, two smaller pouches, and an open space for other items like power supply cords. It also has a zippered pouch for items such as tablets or books. Located near the fold of the bag, is a unique serial number embossed on a metal label which can be used to identify your bag if it ever gets lost. The bag closes with two strong, plastic clasps. Booq spared no expense — they even placed a metal guard at the opening of the straps so that they would not rip out. The back side of the bag features a flat pouch for additional books or materials.

High end materials can be found everywhere in this bag. The Boa Courier 15 also features specialized materials like reflective piping that is easy to see in low light situations. From the straps to the zipper, this bag is consistent with what you have come to expect from Booq laptop bags.

In Use

  • The Boa courier 15 is not a small laptop back. It was able to hold many items. I filled the bag with:
  • Dell 14.1-inch laptop
  • iPhone
  • Writing pad
  • Pens
  • Power supply
  • Plus plenty of room left over for other items

This bag is designed for a professional on the move — specifically a mid to large size male. Most females will find this bag too large and overwhelming. It has an understated professional design and it is clearly created for the metro male. This bag will appeal to a professional who bikes to work or can maneuver the subway system with grace and finesse.

As a medium size female, the bag is simply too large for my body. No matter how I carriy it, the bag bumps into things around me. The bag is wider than even the largest part of my back. (It is clearly not created for me.) So I handed it to one of the guys in my office. The bag is a much better fit for him. He is able to use the bag as designed although he stated it felt a bit large … even on him. While he wore it I noticed that it tended to stick out a little too far on one side or the other, but it did hold snug to his body when the removable stabilizer strap was used.

Although the bag is large, it is comfortable to carry. The strap has a removable padded cover and is more than adequate in softening the load. The ergonomic nature of the bag ensures that even when carrying it for long amounts of time the bag remains comfortable.

One of the biggest drawbacks of this laptop bag is that it doesn’t stand up straight when set on a flat surface. It kept wanting to topple over. I much prefer a bag that will stand up on its own. But the curved design of the bottom of the bag doesn’t make this possible.

One of the bonuses to buying this Booq bag is the unique Terralinq serial number that is included. Once registered to your name and email address, the bag can be identified as yours if lost. Registering your bag is a quick three-step process and takes only a minute or two.

There is no denying the quality of this bag. The design is stylish and the materials are top-notch. Booq added many unique elements and materials to this bag including the attached key ring, the herringbone nylon, and reflective piping. I have no doubt that this bag can withstand years of use. If you are in the market for a messenger style bag for professionals on the go I would highly recommend taking a long look at this bag.

Conclusion

The Booq Boa Courier 15 messenger bag is stylish and functional. It can easily look good dressed down or dressed up. It is minimalistic in design — easily adapting to a professional or casual situation.

The laptop bag’s design screams metro male. It’s not that women can’t use the bag, but it’s wide design makes it less practical for women. This bag makes perfect sense for those that like to ride their bikes to work, but for those whose commute includes a short walk from their home to their car and from their car to the office this bag is not your best choice. Booq makes plenty of other options if this is your work situation.

The Booq Boa Courier bag is durable, well-made and beautifully designed. Just because it didn’t work well for me doesn’t mean it’s not a good backpack for someone else. Based on my needs the Booq Boa Flow M with a built-in padded camera compartment would be great for when I travel to editorial meetings in NYC or my yearly CES excursion in Vegas.

The Booq Boa Courier 15 has an MSRP of $129.95.
