To see the C711n in action, check out our hands-on video first look below!

Setting up the C711n
The OKI C711n wasn’t too difficult to set up since it’s a single function printer.  OKI provides an 18-step photo diagram on the setup basics as well as a Setup Guide that walks users through installing the drivers and software on a PC or Mac.

Once the user gets the printer unpacked and has installed the toner and loaded the paper, the driver CD does most of the work.  You will need to choose your connection type – Ethernet, USB, Parallel – and you’ll need to select which utilities you want to install.

For users who purchase additional paper trays or the C711dtn configuration, there is an additional setup diagram included in the paper drawer box about connecting the drawer to the base unit.  It was very simple and not at all time consuming but you will need someone strong enough to lift the 60 lb. base unit since the drawer is attached below.

No restart required with the driver installation.  All in all it took about twenty minutes or so to get the printer setup and the drivers/software installed on my PC.

Ease of use
Again, because the C711n is a single function printer, it’s fairly simple to operate.  Once the print driver is installed, the user can basically run the C711 through the basic print properties/preference menu found on most browsers and word processors.

OKI also includes a web server that allows users to get information on print status, supplies status as well as printer location information (on a large campus this is useful info), the type of paper in each drawer, drum and fuser life status, job list, etc.  Administrators can choose what type of information is available to individual employees and exactly what they can print.

The roll dials I mentioned earlier are set to the type of paper that is inside each drawer.  This not only allows users to see visually what’s inside the printer but it lets the printer know so that businesses can avoid wasting materials.  For instance, when I was printing network info, the printer alerted me to the fact I had legal sized paper in tray one.  I changed it to plain letter sized copy paper, rolled the dial and the printer continued the job.

Along with adjusting print settings, the menu on the C711n will allow users to print out reports, properly shutdown the printer, calibrate the printer, and access admin rights.  As I’ve seen on other models, the C711n will allow users to print a menu map of all internal options making it a breeze to navigate the printer’s menus.

For perfect colors on every job, OKI includes the Color Swatch Utility, listing hundreds of colors in simple swatch chart for choosing the right RGB value for the color in your application.
