Quick Take

If you are looking for a workhorse single function printer for your office, you can't go wrong with the B700 series from OKI.

OKI Data Americas announced the new B700 series this past Fall as a monochrome LED lineup perfect for small to midsize offices with quick print speeds, built-in network connectivity and a compact footprint.

The B730n and B730dn sit at the top of the lineup with the main difference being that the B730dn has automatic duplexing while the B730n does not. Both units offer print speeds up to 52 ppm with a print resolution up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, a large standard paper capacity of 700 pages, a front side USB port and are each compatible with Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.

So read our much anticipated full review and find out now if the B730n will be the perfect fit for your office.

The OKI B730n may be the flagship model of the B700 series of monochrome single function LED printers targeted at small to midsized offices and workgroups but all six devices have the same body: a light gray, bordering on white, exterior with two standard paper drawers and a splash of color around the control panel. The dimensions of the B730n are approximately 16 x 22 x 16 inches with the rear tray attached.

Working my way from the top down, I’ll start with the 70-sheet output bin that doubles as the access panel to the single black toner cartridge. This might be the first time I’ve had a printer in for review with this unique setup, but I liked it; it was incredibly easy to access the toner. The B730n comes with a 10,000 page drum-toner cartridge, but OKI also offers replacement drum-toner cartridges with approximate yields of 15,000, 20,000 or 25,000 pages.

The control panel is centered on the front of the B730n and features a 5-line backlit display, numerical key pad, four directional navigation pad and three quick keys.

The B730n comes standard with a 150-sheet drawer and a 550-sheet drawer for a total paper capacity of 700 sheets and a maximum monthly duty cycle of 200,000 pages. Increase the paper capacity up to 1800 sheets with the addition of two optional 550-sheet paper drawers.

The B730n also features a 600 MHz processor with 128MB of standard memory. Customers can increase the memory up to 640MB and add a 40GB hard disk drive for support of productivity features such as Secure Print and Delayed Print.

All connections are found on the back of the printer. The B730n can be set up via a USB or Ethernet connection.
