Quick Take

The Lexmark OfficeEdge Pro5500 All-in-One is a true laser-class replacement option for small and medium sized businesses.

Lexmark introduced the OfficeEdge Series earlier this month as a viable alternative to laser printers for small businesses and workgroups.

The OfficeEdge Pro5500, the flagship of the new series, features print, scan, copy and fax functionality as well as print speeds of up to 21 ppm in black and 14 ppm in color, a 50-sheet duplexing ADF, front loading Vizix Pro pigment ink system, 4.3-inch color touchscreen with SmartSolutions, front side USB port, 300-sheet paper cassette and built-in networking with wireless capability.

And if that’s not enough, Lexmark promises savings of up to 50 percent over laser-class printers in the same class. Want to know more? Read our full review where we share our results from our tests and see how the OfficeEdge Pro5500 stacks up to a laser-class printer!

Overview

Build & Design
No one could claim that the lexmark OfficeEdge Pro5500 is the “smallest” inkjet all-in-one but with the approximate dimensions of 12 x 20 x 17-inches in non-use, it is still smaller than the average sized laser-class printer. Throw in the added height with the addition of the second tray and it’s probably about the same size as many color laser class printers in its class.  But it’s got a clean look thanks to the compact build, matte black paneling and 4.3-inch touchscreen panel.

The 50-sheet automatic document feeder has duplexing capability for hands-free scanning, faxing or copying multi-page double sided documents. And with a large flatbed scan area up to 8.5 x 14-inches, users can scan large images and photos as well.

The 4.3-inch touchscreen is a smart control panel allowing customers to navigate the multiple stand alone devices as well as the SmartSolutions applications only bringing up the appropriate sub menus and options needed for the selected functionality.

The OfficeEdge Pro5500 offers a front side USB port and built-in memory card reader for printing images and documents on the fly. Compatible media includes: Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, SD, MultiMediaCard and xD card (Type M, Type H).

The 300-sheet paper tray is standard but for business with higher print volumes, the Pro5500 can be upgraded to the Pro5500t which includes a second 500-sheet paper tray. A variety of media is supported including: card stock, envelopes, transparencies, photo paper, iron-on transfers, etc.

The OfficeEdge Pro5500 has a front loading Vizix Pro pigment ink system with larger ink cartridges than previous generation. The standard capacity lexmark 200 cartridges yield between 500 and 625 pages while the Lexmark 200XL yield between 1600 and 2500 pages (depending on the color).

All connections are found on the back of the OfficeEdge Pro5500. Customers can set up the OfficeEdge Pro5500 over a USB 2.0, Ethernet or wireless connection.
