Kodak Office Hero 6.1 Review: First Look

Kodak unveiled the brand new HERO line of AIOs earlier this fall with much fanfare including buzz about the new Google Cloud feature, adding Kodak to the growing list of printer manufactures to jump on board the cloud.

And while they announced four new AIOs focused on the home, there was only one office printer introduced, the Office HERO 6.1. The Office HERO 6.1 is focused on the small office, home office (SOHO) market and offers print, scan, copy and fax functionality. Other offerings include a 2.4 inch LCD, 35-page ADF, automatic double sided documents (prints, scans, copies and faxes), a 200-sheet cassette and Wi-Fi.

But the real question is what will make the Office HERO 6.1 stand out as a business capable device? We’ve seen many office inkjets crash and burn over the years. Not because they were terrible printers but because they were really more suitable for a home, not a small business.

Today, we’ll be sharing our hands-on first look at the Kodak Office HERO 6.1 with information about the specs, build, design, pricing and plenty of photos. And make sure you come back soon for the full review!

The Kodak Office HERO 6.1 has a very similar design to what we saw with the Kodak ESP Office 6150: a large ADF, open face 200-sheet paper tray, 2.4-inch LCD surrounded by quick keys, an alphanumerical key pad and four directional navigation pad. However, the build is larger, heavier and more boxy with the dimensions of 19 x 17 x 10 inches in non use.

The Office HERO 6.1 has been updated feature wise including a five page increase on the ADF capacity (35 pages compared to 30 pages) as well as a duplexing flatbed that can print, scan, copy and fax double sided documents. The flatbed will accommodated documents up to 8.5 x 11.7 inches while the ADF can handle documents up to Legal size. Users can also enjoy increased scan-to options including Google Docs.

The control panel is almost identical in functionality but is built in to the printer instead of being adjustable as it was on the ESP Office 6150 model. As we mentioned above, it offers a 2.4-inch display with plenty of quick keys and navigation tools. There is also a built-in card reader located below. Compatible media includes: SD, SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, USB flash drive or PictBridge enabled devices.

Pull up from under the flatbed to expose the inside of the machine and replace ink cartridges. The Kodak Office HERO 6.1 features a two-cartridge ink system and comes with the standard 10B and 10C ink cartridges. You can also purchase a high capacity 10XL black ink replacement.

The 200-sheet open paper tray is loaded by lifting the output tray and adjusting the guides according to the size of media. The tray can hold media ranging from 4 x 6 inches to 8.5 x 14 inches and can accommodate up to 70 sheets of photo paper.
