Energy use
The Kodak ESP Office 2170 uses a very small amount of energy when in non use. When in ready mode, the energy consumption is about 4 W; in sleep mode, that drops to about 2W.

It also uses an average to below average amount of energy for all-in-one inkjets with an energy consumption of 11-16W when printing in normal mode and 14-22W in draft print mode.

PROS

  • Excellent photo/text quality
  • Easy to use software
  • Creative features
  • Lowest total ink replacement costs

CONS

  • Manual duplexing
  • Single rear fed tray
  • Slower than advertised print speeds

CONCLUSION
If the Kodak ESP Office 2170 All-in-One was being marketed at homes as a budget friendly photo all-in-one printer, I’d consider giving it an Editor’s Choice Award. The photo and text quality was excellent, it offers creative features and easy to use software and the lowest total ink replacement cost, a distinction that matters to consumers who don’t have as high of print volumes as an office or workgroup.

Plus, all the negatives for an office environment – slower than advertised print speeds, a rear tray, lack of automatic duplexing, smaller ADF – won’t matter as much to a home user as quality and cost.

I would recommend the Kodak ESP Office 2170 to consumers looking for an upgrade to their single-function inkjet or to professionals who need a personal AIO in their office. Even small workgroups and businesses will probably need a more heavy duty option to keep up with their work flow.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
