Energy Use Tests
The LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn uses a respectable amount of energy for a laser printer. When printing, the M425dn uses between 500-700W of energy, the highest numbers we saw during the review.

Unlike the single function LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn, you’ll also find additional energy use when using the added functionality of the LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn. For instance, when scanning a document the energy use only increased slightly, but when copying documents the energy use was the same as if printing.

During warm up, energy use spiked at 500W and fell quickly to ready mode, pulling in about 10W. When in sleep mode, the M425dn only used 7W of energy.

Like the single function HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn, I found the LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn to be very functional.  The print speeds were quick and reliable, the print quality was quite good and I find the web-connected and mobile applications to add value that some competitors can’t match as of this writing.

And for only $100 more, you can get three additional devices – scan, copy and fax – as well as a 50-sheet duplexing automatic document feeder.  The LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn price is also very competitive for its class, something I found to be lacking on the single function LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn.

I’d like to see a larger standard capacity paper cassette since the LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn offers such a high volume monthly duty cycle and a better warranty catering to the businesses that will inevitably purchase the LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn.

I would recommend the HP LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn to small and medium sized businesses looking for a multifunction printer to handle high volume black and white printing as well as a variety of other business needs.

Pricing and Availability
The HP LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn is available now through HP and authorized vendors for the suggested retail price of $499. Interested in connecting wirelessly? Consider the LaserJet Pro 400 M425dw for the suggested retail price of $529.

Supplies and accessories can also be purchased through HP. A standard capacity 80A black toner cartridge retails for $103.99 while the high capacity 80X black toner cartridges retails for $178.99.

The LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn comes with a standard 1-year warranty, but customers can purchase additional coverage with HP’s Care Pack Services.
