The HP Envy 120 is a stylish 3-in-1 printer, if a bit underwhelming on the performance side.
The HP Envy 120 e-All-in-One was unveiled at the end of 2012, but had its official debut at CES 2013 and the Digital Experience Technology Tailgate. And while we were lucky enough to get some one-on-one time with the Envy 120 at product showcase in New York, I was still excited to receive the ultra hip device in for review.
I was curious what HP had changed/improved besides the obvious cosmetic changes and how that would affect performance. And today, we are sharing are testing results. So read on to find out more about the Envy 120!
Build and Design
If you haven’t seen the Envy 120 yet, you are in for a pleasant surprise. Like the previous generation Envy 100 and Envy 110, the Envy 120 more closely resembles a DVR or DVD box than an all-in-one inkjet with the approximate dimensions of 17 x 13 x 4 in non-use (closer to 17 x 20 x 13 when printing), sleek black casing and transparent scan lid.
Yep, that’s right, transparent scan lid. Users can see what’s on the 8.5 x 11-inch scan flatbed while the device is scanning making this new design as functional as it is aesthetic.
The control panel runs across the front of the Envy 120 hiding the input and output trays. The Envy 120 features a 4.33-inch color touchscreen with six intelligent touch keys (they light up when functional), a front side USB port that doubles as a mobile device charger and built-in memory card reader.
Users can access the ink cartridges by lifting up the flatbed at the middle of the device. The Envy 120 comes with two HP 60 ink cartridges: HP 60 Black and HP 60 Tri-color. HP does offer high capacity replacement cartridges – the HP 60XL series.
The Envy 120 has a single 80-sheet paper tray found that pulls out when the control panel is lifted.
All connections are found on the back of the device. The Envy 120 can be set up via a high speed USB 2.0 or wireless connection.
