Energy Tests

While we’re talking about ink consumption, it is worth mentioning power consumption as well. The R3000 is an ENERGY STAR compliant printer, so if you want to keep your office “green” and avoid costly electric bills this might be a great photo printer for you.

The Epson R3000 consumes approximately 20W when printing and only a modest 3W in standby mode. That’s just a bit more power consumption than a current-generation ENERGY STAR compliant all-in-one office printer so at least this big printer doesn’t burn through electricity the way it consumes ink.

Stylus Photo R3000 Specifications:

  • Single function wide format photo inkjet
  • Print speeds: 8 x 10-inch image in 1 minute, 33 seconds
  • Print speeds: 13 x 19-inch image in 2 minutes, 30 seconds

  • Three-way paper feeding: 120-sheet rear tray, single sheet front feed, 13-inch roll

  • 9-color Epson UltraChrome K3 Pigment Ink System
  • Connectivity: Wireless, Ethernet, USB 2.0

The things that make the Epson Stylus Photo R3000 an extraordinary printer are the same things that have made the Epson brand a trusted name for working photographers; print quality, ease of use and consistency.

Even though the R3000 suffers from the same ink capacity limitations of most wide-format printers, it’s remarkably easy to setup over Wi-Fi, it delivers exceptional print quality on a wide range of paper types and it delivers great consistency (no paper jams or misfeeds during our review process). Add to those benefits the fact that this printer is remarkably quiet and you’ve got a great solution for in-office printing of photos for clients.

Although we found it a bit annoying that loading specialty papers into the front-loading single-sheet tray required navigating the menu on the printer itself every time, this was a minor issue once we got used to the process of loading specialty papers.

Newer printers like Canon’s Pixma Pro-1 might offer slightly larger ink tanks and some interesting color management, but the Epson Stylus Photo R3000 is a workhorse that gets the job done with great results and a minimum of fuss.

Pricing and Availability
The Epson Stylus Photo R3000 Inkjet Printer is available now through Epson and authorized retailers for the sale price of $649.99, $150 off the suggested selling price of $799.99.

Supplies and accessories are also available through Epson. A set of 9 ink tanks will set a user back $283.41 at full MSRP.

Epson offers a 1-year limited warranty.
