Epson Stylus NX430 Review: First Look

Epson’s most recent addition to their Stylus lineup also has a catchy new name, the Epson Stylus NX430 “Small”-in-One, a play on words based on its unique size as the “smallest footprint available for the feature set.”

In addition to compact form factor, the Stylus NX430 offers three functional devices – print, scan and copy – as well as print speeds up to 6.2 ppm in black, a smart touch panel with a 2.5-inch LCD, built-in card reader, 100-sheet rear fed collapsible paper tray and wireless connectivity.

Announced this fall, the Stylus NX430 is already sold out on Epson’s website so figured we’d take a look and find out if this small-in-one can live up to all the hype. Join us in taking a hands-on first look at the Epson Stylus NX430 including detailed information on build, design, specs and pricing as well as plenty of photos from our lab. And make sure to check back soon for the full review!

As the name suggests, the Stylus NX430 is fairly small with the approximate dimensions of 15 x 12 x 6-inches in storage and a weight of just over 9 lbs without consumables. There is no automatic document feeder or paper cassette so the form factor is sleek, with just a thin lid covering the 8.5 x 11-inch flatbed scanner.

However, with the absence of a paper cassette, the Stylus NX430 uses a collapsible 100-sheet rear fed tray that adds several inches on to the back end when the device is in use. Not a big deal unless you have the NX430 pushed up against a wall, which I wouldn’t recommend.

The smart touch panel is adjustable for a custom viewing angle and, like we’ve seen with smart touch panels before, only the keys that need to perform a certain function will light up. The entire panel is centered on the 2.5-inch LCD.

There is a small built-in card reader to the left of the extendable output tray. Compatible media includes SD, Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro cards. There is no front side USB port which is kind of a bummer.

Lift from the sides to reveal the inside of the Stylus NX430 as well as the print head and four ink cartridge system. The Stylus NX430 comes with four 124 standard capacity cartridges (CMYK), but can also be used with high capacity replacements.
