Epson has unveiled several new additions to its PictureMate line of compact personal photo labs over the past few months including the Epson PictureMate Charm.

The PictureMate Charm is a lightweight portable photo printer with one of the highest print resolutions in its class at 5760 x 1440 dpi.   And thanks to the 4-color dye print cartridge, there is no messy ink to worry about spilling.

But will the quality be as good as your typical inkjet printer?  Read on to find out!

  • 4-color compact photo printer
  • Print speed: as fast as 37 seconds
  • Print resolution: up to 5760 x 1440 dpi
  • 2.5 inch LCD
  • Built-in memory card reader w/PictBridge
  • Paper capacity: 20 sheets of photo paper
  • USB connectivity
  • Energy Star qualified
  • RoHS compliant

Like all of the photo printers in the PictureMate line, the Charm is light weight and super compact, with a large handle for easy portability.  Its approximate dimensions are 7 x 9 x 6 inches when not in use; in printing mode its dimensions are closer to 14 x 9 x 11 inches.   It weighs less than 8lbs out of the box.

The PictureMate Charm has a very clean, friendly look with its bright white exterior, colorful PictureMate logo, and well labeled control panel.  There is also a small Epson logo and Energy Star label in the bottom right corner.

In order to print or access the 2.5 inch LCD, the top lid must be opened.  Along with the LCD, users will find the eight button control panel and 20-sheet paper slot with adjustable edge guides underneath.  The PictureMate Charm uses PictureMate Glossy photo paper.

The output tray opens out by pushing the top right corner of the front side panel, directly below the PictureMate logo.   Users will also find the built-in card reader behind the front panel.  The Charm is compatible with CompactFlash, SD, SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick, Microdrive (Type M/H) and xD-Picture cards.

The connection ports are on the back of the PictureMate Charm; use the Charm with a USB connected computer or PictBridge enabled digital camera.

Beneath the ports, users will find the cartridge door for loading the 4-color dye PictureMate Photo Cartridge.

You’ll also find space for the optional rechargeable battery for users who want ultimate portability for their Charm.  Wireless photo printing is also available with the optional Bluetooth adapter.
