Energy Tests
The B1160w is an energy efficient laser printer, never topping 800W during our tests. When printing, it was in the range of 200 – 500W, but dropped to less than 100W as the job completed before falling into the 2W ready mode.

The B1160w offers a sleep mode of 1W which is the next best thing to Off.

B1160w Specifications:

  • Single function monochrome laser
  • Print speeds: up to 21 ppm
  • Print resolution: up to 600 x 600 dpi
  • 300 MHz processor with 32MB of memory
  • Monthly duty cycle: up to 10,000 pages
  • Paper capacity: 150 sheets
  • One-piece toner cartridge, lifetime fuser
  • Connectivity: USB 2.0, Wi-Fi
  • Operating systems: Windows, Linux, Mac OS X
  • Energy Star qualified
  • 1-year warranty

The Dell B1160w is nearly identical to the Samsung ML-2165w that we reviewed earlier this year thanks to a behind the scenes partnership so customers can expect a great product.

But like the Samsung ML-2165w, the one potential problem I see is that the B1160w is going to fall into niche market since it is an ultra compact single function monochrome laser printer. You’ll need to be looking for a very specific need; perhaps for a home or small office that wants a no-hassle device that prints quickly and reliably.

On the bright side, the B1160w has a suggested retail price of $119 ($99 without wireless connectivity) and gives users’ a laser quality product without the hassle of multiple consumables thanks to a single unit toner cartridge and a lifetime fuser guarantee.

Pricing and Availability
The Dell B1160w is available now through Dell direct and authorized retailers for the suggested retail price of $119. The B1160 (no wireless) is available for the suggested retail price of $99.

Supplies are also available through the Dell website or the Dell Supplies Ordering Utility.  A high capacity 1500 page yield toner cartridge is $59.99 on Dell’s website.
