Dell unveiled the 2155cdn laser multifunction printer along with the “world’s smallest” laser-class printer, the Dell 1250c. The 2155cdn was also released along with the 2155cn; the difference between the two being that the 2155cdn has automatic duplexing. Today we’ll be covering the 2155cdn, a multifunction device targeted toward business users.

Dell introduced this 4-in-1 device (print, scan, copy and fax) with an emphasis on its fast print speeds of 24 pages per minute and its high-yield print cartridges (40,000 page maximum duty cycle). The MFP can hold up to 250 sheet of paper in its standard tray and one sheet in its bypass tray. The maximum print resolution is 600 x 600 dpi.

Here, we’ll take a closer look at the Dell 2155cdn through a bounty of product photographs, information on its build and design and its pricing and availability.

The first thing you will notice about the Dell 2155cdn is its sheer size. The approximate dimensions are 17 x 21 x 23 inches, so it stands tall. It’s heavy, too – it weighs approximately 66 pounds without consumables. It’s mostly black, but it has some silver accents on the control panel and Dell brand plate. Like almost all laser-class MFPs, it has matte surfaces.

The device offers a 35-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) for hands-free copying, faxing and scanning media up to 8.5 x 14 inches in size. The CCD flatbed scanner is underneath the ADF; users can scan to USB, SMB, FTP, application and email. The maximum supported scan size is 8.5 x 14 inches and the maximum optical resolution is 1200 dpi. Users can save scans in TIFF, JPEG and PDF (Ver 1.6).

Beneath the scanner is a USB port for scanning and printing files off a flash drive. At the center of the control panel is a 4-line / 28-character LCD, and next to it are control buttons and a 12-key numeric keypad. The LCD is navigated with four directional arrows and an enter key. Also included on the control panel are eight buttons in which users can use to store fax numbers. After stored in the Phone Book, press one key to send a fax.

The 250-sheet standard paper tray is located at the bottom. It can print documents and media up to 8.5 x 14 inches in size. The bypass tray holds one sheet. As an option, users may also choose to purchase an additional 250-sheet input tray. The 2155cdn can hold an array of media, including plain, coated, #10 envelopes, pre-punched/letterhead/pre-printed, labels and recycled. The printer cannot print on inkjet glossy photo paper.

If you press a button on the side, a door pops open to reveal a full compartment for holding paper jams. On the same side as the button is an ink cartridge panel for the quick load of the toner. The device comes shipped with four inks – the Dell 215Xcn Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.

All of the connections are located in the back. You can connect it via Hi-Speed USB 2.0, Ethernet, Wireless (with optional dongle), and over a USB Host Port. It’s also worth noting that included with this MFP are two Kensington lock slots – one on the front and one on the back.
