- Great Print Quality
- Wireless Connectivity
- Dual Function Panel
- Print Pauses
- Ink Replacement Costs
- The Canon Pixma MX892 is a very capable all-in-one inkjet for the home office but ink costs could be a factor.
Canon introduced the Pixma MX892 as the flagship model of its office lineup last month, following in the footsteps of the three office ready AIOs – the Pixma 512, Pixma MX432 and Pixma MX372 ? announced in February.
The Pixma MX892 offers automatic double sided print, scan, copy and fax functionality along with a 35-sheet duplex automatic document feeder, print speeds up to 12.5 ipm in black and 9.3 ipm in color, a print resolution up to 9600 x 2400 dpi, and mobile and cloud capable printing solutions.

Build & Design
Design-wise, the Pixma MX892 is very similar to the previous generation Pixma MX882 with the same dimensions ? 19 x 18 x 9-inches in nonuse ? the same stylish black exterior and the same 3-inch LCD along with the Dual Function Panel allowing customers to navigate the large, easy to read buttons pertaining to the device you are using (scan, copy, fax, etc.).
But Canon took it a step further with the Pixma MX892, adding a 35-sheet duplexing automatic document feeder so that users can scan, copy or fax large double-sided documents up to legal size with ease while completing other tasks.
The 8.5 x 11.7-inch flatbed scanner is found beneath the ADF and offers an optical scan resolution up to 2400 x 4800 dpi. Other scan features include: Auto Document Fix, Auto Duplex Scan, Auto Scan Mode, Network Scan, Push Scan and Scan to Memory.
Pull down the front panel/output tray, press the small black button on the left side of the flatbed and lift at the middle to access the print head and five individual ink cartridges. The Pixma MX892 ships with a PGI-225 pigment based black ink cartridge and four CLI-226 dye based ink cartridges (CMYK). As far as I can tell from Canon’s website, they do not offer high capacity ink cartridges as of this writing.
There are two paper trays on the Pixma MX892; a 150-sheet collapsible rear fed tray and a 150-sheet front side pull out paper tray. Canon recommends using the front side tray for more standard copy paper while using the rear-fed tray for more diverse media such as envelopes, photo paper and more.
The Pixma MX892 features a built-in card reader with a front side USB/PictBridge port. The Pixma MX892 is compatible with the following media: SD, SDHC, MultiMediaCard, MMC Plus, CompactFlash, Microdive, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO duo.
All connections are found on the back of the Pixma MX892. Customers can select to set up their new device via a Hi-Speed USB 2.0, Wireless LAN or Ethernet connection (USB and Ethernet cables are not provided).
