Energy Tests
The Brother HL-3075cw is Energy Star qualified and compared to a color laser printer in its class, the energy use stays relatively low.

In ready mode, with the display backlit, the HL-3075cw pulls about 12 W of energy. When it drops into sleep mode, with the display dark, the HL-3075cw pulls in about 7 W of energy.

Whether printing black and white or color documents, the HL-3075cw was incredibly consistent, staying in a range for 400-500 W throughout the print job. The only time we saw higher numbers was when the printer was warming up before printing with spikes near 1000 W of energy before dropping into the 800 W range, 300 W range, then finally the 20 W range before settling into ready mode. The entire cycle took less than 30 seconds.

The Brother HL-3075cw does everything it’s suppose to: it printed quality color and text documents at a consistent rate of 19 ppm. It offers plenty of features a small office or business could take advantage of including: wired and wireless networking, a front side USB port, Secure Print and a decent sized 250-sheet paper drawer.

So what’s the catch? This printer is really meant for a small workgroup or office in need of added color; it’s never going to be the sole device in an office with a decent sized print volume. And I’m not going to lie, I feel like Brother should offer automatic duplexing standard on the HL-3075cw.

Still, if what you are looking for is a reliable, consistent color printer with laser quality priced at under $300, the HL-3075cw could be the right fit.
