Brother unveiled a new line of six single function laser printers targeted at the SOHO (small office, home office) market this fall which included the HL-2200 series.

Today, we have a full review of the HL-2270dw, the flagship of the HL-2200 lineup. At $149.99, the HL-2270dw combines a small footprint with fast print speeds, automatic duplexing, and built-in networking (including wireless connectivity).  Will it truly fit in both a small office and a home office?  Find out now!

  • Monochrome laser
  • Print speeds: up to 27 ppm
  • Print resolution: up to 2400 x 600 dpi
  • Automatic duplexing
  • 200 MHz processor with 32 MB memory
  • Monthly duty cycle: up to 10,000 pages
  • Paper capacity: 250-sheet paper cassette, single sheet bypass tray
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, USB, Ethernet
  • Energy Star qualified
  • 1-year limited warranty

The Brother HL-2270dw combines a small footprint with a new sleek design (at least compared to previous generation Brother monochrome laser printers) in a mix of dark gray and glossy black. The approximate dimensions are 15 x 14 x 7 inches and the HL-2270dw should easily fit on even the smallest of desks.

And thanks to the standard wireless connectivity, the HL-2270dw only needs one cord (power) to operate, keeping the messiest of desks tidy, in theory at least.

Despite its small stature, the HL-2270dw offers a 10,000 page maximum monthly duty cycle, a 250-sheet paper cassette with a one sheet multipurpose tray and a top side output bin that can hold up to 100 sheets of paper.

Users can access the single black toner cartridge by pulling open the front panel. Brother provides a starter toner cartridge that yields approximately 700 pages and offers both a standard toner cartridge (yields approximately 1,200 pages) and a high yield toner cartridge (yields approximately 2,600 pages) for purchase.

As I mentioned previously, Brother does offer built-in wireless connectivity but the HL-2270dw can also be set up via an Ethernet or USB 2.0 connection, found on the back of the printer along with a removable panel for access to the paper path.
