Eurocom redefined mobile Solid State Drive (SSD) expectations today, announcing that it will ship the 1-terabyet OCZ Octane SATA 2.5" SSD in its line of upgradeable notebooks and mobile workstations.
The 1 TB drive is the largest mobile SSD to date, and it is the first to break the terabyte threshold. Besides the large size the OCZ Octane SATA 2.5" offers impressive max read and write speeds clocked at 460 MB/s and 330 MB/s respectively. The drive also comes with a 3-year warranty.
According to Eurocom President Mark Bialic the OCZ Octane not only offers a quality product, but breaks down a storage barrier; he explains:
"At one time, SSDs were high speed low capacity storage mediums, with the 1TB OCZ Octane SATA III 2.5" SSD users can now have the best of speed and capacity within their Eurocom Notebook".
While this new drive certainly highlights the possibilities of future storage enhancements, it will not be attainable for many. The OCZ Octane SATA 2.5" SSD is currently an available upgrade in Eurocom models; but the option will net consumers an additional $2,795, putting it far out of most consumers' price range.
