Samsung Series 3 Chromebook

  |   by NotebookReview Staff

It’s easy to be captivated by the Samsung Chromebook. It has many of the same attributes of an Ultrabook including light weight, thinness, an 11.6-inch screen, and comfortable keyboard. Great battery life is another plus. All of this priced less than most tablets. On the other hand, the Series 3 Chromebook suffers from limited local storage and it isn’t particularly functional if there is no internet access. But as a second or travel laptop, a laptop for casual users, or an alternative to a tablet, the Samsung Chromebook should fit the bill just fine.

  • Pros

    • Inexpensive
    • Good battery life
    • Lots of apps in Play Store
    • Can use some Drive apps offline
    • 3G from Verizon is available as an option
  • Cons

    • Very little capability when offline
    • Very limited self-contained storage
    • Free online storage is limited and is charged for after size limit is reached
    • "Free" online storage is charged for after 2 years
    • 3G option is almost as pricy as the laptop
    • No Ethernet capability

Quick Take

The Chromebook once again delivers a basic laptop experience but that might not be enough for many users.
