Quick Take

The latest AVADirect X7200 is an extremely impressive gaming machine with great optional extras ... just be ready to pay for them and don't expect all-day battery life.

What does a notebook need in order to claim the title of “world’s fastest laptop”? The AVADirect Clevo X7200 steps up to the challenge with a six-core Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition processor, cutting-edge NVIDIA GeForce 580M graphics, 12GB of RAM and a blazing fast SSD. Will all that gaming performance keep your attention, or will this 13.5-pound notebook prove too much to bear?

Made … Assembled In America
If you’re a newbie to the world of custom gaming notebooks then one of the first things you need to know is that there are a number of custom notebook builders (often called “resellers”) here in the United States and overseas. The reason these Custom PC shops are sometimes called “resellers” is that they don’t design and fabricate their own laptops like Dell or HP. Instead, they buy notebook chassis from companies like Clevo, MSI, OCZ or ASUS. These custom shops then add the processor, graphics card and other internal components that you want and “resell” the notebook to you at an additional cost to cover the expense of their work.

AVADirect, a custom reseller based here in the great state of Ohio, is the company that was kind enough to send us one of their latest and greatest configurations of the Clevo X7200 gaming notebook. The X7200 is based on Intel’s X58 chipset and both Clevo and AVADirect claim the top-end configuration is “the fastest desktop replacement in the world.” With support for quad-core and 6-core CPUs, one or two NVIDIA or ATI GPUs (graphics cards), and space for three storage drives, this massive notebook is built for people who want extreme gaming performance but also want to be able to take their PC with them when they travel.

Haven’t We Met Before?
Our regular readers will notice this notebook is essentially the same Clevo X7200 we reviewed last year … at least on the outside. This year, AVADirect loaded it with the latest Intel Extreme Edition Core i7 processor and NVIDIA’s all new GeForce GTX 580M graphics. Keep reading if you want to find out more about an insanely powerful gaming PC.
