Lantronix Inc., a global provider of smart connectivity solutions, has set its sights on Apple’s iOS with the launch of the first Apple print server compatible with the iPad2, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and virtually any device running Apple’s iOS mobile operating system.

An easy to use, affordable plug-and-play solution, the xPrintServer enables wireless printing from the native print menu to networked printers by leveraging Lantronix’ patented technologies, along with open industry standards.

The device, about the size of an iPhone, doesn’t require any software, apps or configuration.

Users can print directly from an iPad or iPhone to any printer once connected to a network via an Ethernet cable. The xPrintServer – Network Edition will auto-discover and auto-provision the printers which enables the users iOS device to print directly to them.

Users can access printers via a corporate Wi-Fi network. The device doesn’t require documents to be synched back to a PC or Mac in order to print to a legacy printer.

xPrintServer ships with one xPrintServer-Network Edition, a RJ45 Ethernet cable, a universal power adapter and a xPrintServer Quickstart Guide, according to the company. The device supports all newer generation Apple devices including: iOS 4.2 or later; iPad and iPad2; iPhone – 3GS or later; iPod touch – 3rd generation or later.

xPrintServer supports thousands of printer models from leading printer vendors including HP, Brother, Epson, Canon, Dell, Lexmark and Xerox.

The product is expected to ship in Q1 2012 and is now available for pre-orders at store.Lantronix.com. The product will also be available on Amazon, NewEgg, Buy.com and MacMall websites, according to the company.
