Xerox toner goes ‘green’

Xerox has announced a new ‘green’ toner – Ultra Low-Melt EA Toner – that can cut power consumption of their printers by as much as 30 percent.

The new EA toner accomplishes this by melting at the point of fusing at a much lower temperature; down as much as 45 degrees Fahrenheit.  According to Xerox, fusing the toner is the most energy consuming process in laser printing.  And by decreasing the temperature required to melt toner and fuse it to the paper, they are allowing the printer decrease energy consumption.

Xerox has now designed more than 50 office and production printers using the EA toner and will be compatible with all future products produced by the company.  The Xerox 700 Digital Color Press will be the first product to use the new toner although it is currently being produced in Japan.
