Xerox has joined ranks with other print vendors offering anywhere, anytime printing for mobile workers. The vendor announced three tools – Mobile Express, Global Print Drivers and The Xerox Mobile Print Solution – to help mobile workers print from any location.

“Today’s mobile workers need an easy and secure way to print that will help them stay productive regardless of location,” said Deborah Cantabene, vice president of solutions marketing, Xerox Enterprise Business Group. “With Xerox’s three mobile print tools office workers can print from anywhere, anytime.”

The new Xerox Mobile Print Solution, scheduled for general availability in early 2011, allows secure printing from any email-enabled device, such as a smartphone, Apple iPad, laptop or desktop computer without being connected to the corporate network, and without having to download drivers or applications.

Mobile workers simply email a file in its original format to a secure server, receive a confirmation code and when ready to print, select Mobile Print on any Xerox Extensible Interface Platform (EIP)-enabled multifunction printer (MFP). The user then enters the confirmation code, selects documents to print and selects output settings, such as duplex, collate, staple, etc. right in the MFP.

The Xerox Mobile Print Solution supports Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, PDFs, text and rich text files, JPG image files and HTML email file formats.

Xerox also announced enhanced Mobile Express and Global Print Drivers that tell workers instantly what printers are available to their laptop for fast printing options, while also offering simplified print management by IT staff. The Mobile Express and Global Print Drivers are free and currently available.

According to Xerox, the updated print drivers:

  • Eliminate the need for IT professionals to install new drivers to support full functionality on current and future Xerox products.
  • Provide access to the latest set of features on Xerox printers and MFPs.
  • Help workers identify print jobs in busy workgroups without banner pages by automatically including user and job information in unused page margin eliminating wasted pages.
  • Offer Earth Smart print driver defaults that can be set to include two-sided printing, proof print, recycled paper and draft mode.

IT administrators will now be able to “push” driver settings, such as duplex printing as a default without having to reinstall the entire driver, out to the network with the new Global Print Driver.
