Xerox is Bringing ‘Printing Back’ to Mobile Devices

In addition to the introduction of the WorkCentre 6015 Color Multifunction Printer, Xerox also unveiled a new mobile print app, “PrintBack”.

The idea behind PrintBack is to give customers the ability to access their default printers through their Mac or PC from an Android or Apple mobile device. Users can then print photos, web pages, emails or files from a variety of programs supported by PrintBack through an open-email service including Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail, Microsoft Live Mail, Dropbox, etc.

PrintBack also gives users the option to save files, photos, email, and webpages to your computer’s download folder or Dropbox in lieu of printing. Or choose the PhotoShoot option and have all photos taken sent directly to your default printer turning your mobile device into an instant “Polaroid.”

Xerox is targeting this product at individuals who need or want to print from mobile devices to their default printer without the need for a middle man and have broken the installation into two steps: the free application download on our mobile device and a second installation on your Mac or PC. Once in place, your mobile device will print to the default printer; it doesn’t matter if it’s a laser or inkjet – or even a Xerox product.

The Xerox PrintBack App is available now through, Android Market and Apple’s App Store.
