Acer has confirmed that their multitouch-capable all-in-one desktop, the Z5600, will be available with the Windows 7 operating system starting October 23rd.
Acer has said previously that the system has been designed from the ground up to take advantages in changes and improvements to Microsoft’s next-gen operating system. The most obvious of these is of course the multitouch capable display and input drivers.
What’s most interesting about this announcement is that it’s the first solid news that’s been tossed around on potential release dates for Windows 7. While it’s been rumored for some time that the follow up to Windows Vista would be out sooner than expected, it’s a bit of a surprised to see it out so early. The “three years after Vista” bit clearly isn’t satisfying Microsoft, who no doubt want to put the PR disaster that was Vista behind them.
Customers who purchase one of Acer’s machines up to 30 days before the presumed launch of Windows 7 will be eligible for a free upgrade to the next equivalent version.
