Western Digital Acquires Arkeia Software Expanding SMB Portfolio

On Tuesday Western Digital (WD) announced the acquisition of Arkeia Software Inc. The storage company has acquired the software firm in hopes of expanding its product portfolio addressing small-and-medium business owners (SMB). In line with the announced WD has also announced that the Arkeia Network Backup version 10.0 software becomes available today.

The acquisition was completed through a merger transaction, in which Arkeia was kept in tacked with all of its employees, technology, and Arkeia products transferring over to WD. Western Digital has also announced that it will support all of Arkeia’s existing customers and plans to retain to retain Arkeia’s software and appliance product lines. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

In acquiring Arkeia, WD will be able to expand its SMB portfolio with Arkeia’s software, appliances and virtual appliances back up data to disk, tape and cloud storage. The merger also gave WD access to the software company’s patented Progressive Deduplication technology, which speeds hybrid-cloud backup by reducing the necessary bandwidth to replicate backup sets over a wide area of networks.

Arkeia Network Backup v10.0

Arkeia Network Backup v10.0 software enables hybrid cloud backups by allowing administrators to combine physical media and Internet transport to replicate backup sets to or from remote cloud storage. The software takes advantage of Arkeia’s Progressive Deduplication technology, allowing for large data volumes without high bandwidth usage.
