Verbatim has released a whole new portfolio of distinctive portable hard disk drives (HDDs), ranging from the leather-enclosed 500 GB Wallet Drive to two drives available in up to 1 TB capacities: the color-coded Acclaim and super fast Store ‘n’ Go.

With the holidays almost upon us the Wallet Drive seems to have “gift for Dad” written all over it. The thin portable drive is designed to look sleek on an executive’s desktop, with its leather enclosure and contrast trim.

As a stocking stuffer, maybe you could add the Verbatim Clip-It, a new slim-style 4GB USB flash-drive with a plastic clip on one side for attachment to DVD disks, paper notebooks, and so on.

The Wallet Drive is bundled with Turbo USB software and Nero BackItUp &Burn app for full system back-up and restore. Purportedly, the Wallet is compatible with all USB connections.

For users requiring more (or less) storage than 500GB, Verbatim tries to make the choice easier be color-coding its new Acclaim drives according to capacity.

Acclaim drives with a “Piano Black” finish are offered in 1TB, 500GB, or 350GB capacities. On the other hand, the “Fire Engine Red” and “Electric Blue” versions of the Acclaim only come in 320GB and 500GB editions.

The Acclaim drives are also bundled with software for file, folder, and complete system backup and recovery. In addition, Verbatim throws in 35 free MP3s from eMusic, along with a free 60-day trial of Norton Online Backup for 5GB of cloud-based storage.

Store ‘n’ Go carries Verbatim’s notion of color coding further. Also available in 1TB, 500GB and 350GB flavors, the compact portable drive is provided solely in “Piano Black.” The Store ‘n’ Go drive, though, is touted as supplying very high data transfer rates through SuperSpeed USB 3.0 technology.

In case you’re planning to buy a new USB 3.0-capable PC but haven’t done so yet, the new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 drive is also reportedly backward-compatible with slower USB 2.0 ports.

Verbatim’s Store ‘n’ Go SuperSpeed USB 3.0 drive includes both Nero BackItUp & Burn and a free trial of Norton Online Backup (5GB).
