It’s been long enough, but the Mac Mini might be finally getting some update love. Even though Steve Jobs famously said that Apple didn’t know how to make a computer less than $500 that wasn’t total garbage, maybe this recession has him seeing a new light.
Wired.com is reporting that an anonymous Apple employee confided the announcement of a new Mac Mini at the upcoming Macworkd Expo in early January. While the employee refused to provide further details than simply the announcement itself, it’s certainly an interesting idea.
The recent global recession has seen drops in computer sales — even Apple’s, and an affordable version of the diminutive device might just be enough to spur sales. While again, we don’t know what form an upgraded Mini would take, there are a few things we’d like to see, such as an upgraded processor and discrete graphics capability. Personally, I’d absolutely love to see a TV tuner, but I suspect that that’s just a pipe dream.
