Windows 8 Chinese HackersIf your worldview about China is based largely on what you see and hear on the Internet and TV, you might think that the rising Eastern power was busy training cadres of elite hackers whose sole purpose was to push against the United States and its allies, trying to steal Top Secret documents or highly protected trade secrets from major companies.

Where the truth lies is difficult to discern, but what we can say is that countries like the United States and Russia need to start looking a little closer to home.

According to Host Exploit’s refreshed World Hosts Report, China only snags one entry in the top 20 list of malicious systems, while five are located here in the United States, and another four are located in Russia. Even scanning the top 50 list only brings one additional Chinese host into play.

Of course, even though China seems to suffer from an overall lower level of compromising systems, the number of users logging inro these systems looks to drastically outweigh those on “competing” servers; for example, while the worst ranked host on the list remains in the Netherlands with its group of ~ 13,000 IPs, while China’s single Chinanet Backbone must cope with > 116 million IPs.

There’s much more interesting data to be found in the survey results, which are available at
