While it’s great that the SSD industry really seems to be moving past the awful and stuttery jMicron controllers used in what seems like all of the last generation of SSDs, the superior Indilinx Barefoot controller isn’t the only game in town.
SuperTalent’s newest SSDs, the TeraDrives, use SandForce’s SF-1500. It’s rapidly becoming the darling of the internet, so wouldn’t surprise us to see these drives come in pretty fast. The new drives are aimed at enterprise class installations, but if Intel’s SSD popularity has shown us anything, there’s no doubt consumers will be jumping at the guns to buy one of these. You’ll be able to get MLC versions up to 400GB in size, and SLC versions coming in at half that amount.
