Sony is looking forward to summer. After releasing the beach-ready VAIO W Series Imperial Lime Green Edition that it designed with help from Billabong, Sony has released three new VAIO laptop lines this week that are sure to grab your attention this summer: the VAIO EA, EB, and EC. The 14-inch EA and 15.5-inch EB models are available in six colors, three of which are of the bright neon variety. In addition to white and two shades of black, VAIO EA and EB laptops come draped in intense hues of blue, green, or pink. The 17.3-inch EC laptop gives you a Hobson’s choice of black. All three series let you add a $19.99 brightly colored, rubber keyboard skin, which protects the laptop’s Chiclet keys while providing a number of different color combinations from which to choose.
The VAIO EA series starts at $769 and weighs 5.2 pounds, the EB series starts at $699 and weighs 5.95 pounds, and the EC series starts at $819 and weighs 7.3 pounds. All three give you three Intel Core CPU options: the Core i3-350M, Core i5-520M, and Core i5-540M. Memory allotments run from 4GB to 8GB, and you have your choice of either 320GB or 500GB hard drive capacity. The two smaller models are based on integrated Intel GMA HD graphics, with the 512MB ATI Radeon HD 5470 graphics card offered as an upgrade option. The Radeon HD 5470 card is the default option on the VAIO EC model, with the 1GB Radeon HD 5650 offered as the upgrade option.
All three lines let you upgrade the DVD burner to a Blu-ray player for a reasonable $80 or a Blu-ray burner for $160. Sadly, the 17.3-inch VAIO EC and its 1600×900 screen resolution falls short of full HD playback. The VAIO EA and EB models feature a 1366×768 resolution.
The VAIO EA, EB, and EC laptops are available now for order on Sony’s website with an estimated ship date of June 17.
