Skullcandy has become one of the more popular options for headphones in recent years, and with products like the new ASTRO A40 gaming headset, it isn’t too difficult to see why. The updated 2013 Edition of the A40 has removable microphones and a removable cable – if you fray yours, or otherwise destroy it, fixing your headphones is as easy as plugging in a new cable.
If you’re gaming together with a team – or just want to show where your loyalties lie – the new A40 features customizable magnetic speaker tags. Slap the image you want on your cans when you head out, and swap it for something else when you get back home.
The A40 also offers users the same Dolby Digital 7.1 and 5.1 simulated surround sound, as well as completely re-tuned drives for what Skullcandy is calling the “best sounding ASTRO headsets ever.” Specifically, the new cans supposedly offer customers an improved low-end response with less distortion at high volumes (PSA: Stop listening to your headphones at high volumes. Your ears will thank me.)
The updated MixAmp Pro lets users chain themselves together for a private team voice channel with zero lag – since it’s all local – and crystal clear audio.
Of course, for a pair of high quality gaming ‘phones and amp, you can expect to pay a pretty penny: the new ASTRO A40 headset and MixAmp Pro are bundled together for a cool $249.99, and they’re available now both online and at Best Buy and GameStop.
