Seagate released a firmware upgrade for the GoFlex Satellite wireless storage devices yesterday. According to Seagate, the upgrade improves battery life, allows numerous devices to connect to the drive at once, and allows the drive to essentially connect to the Internet when a device is connected to the drive.
Seagate released the GoFlex Satellite wireless storage devices a year ago, originally set on simply making it a medium to stream movies and video. After receiving customer feedback, the company has been releasing firmware to improve the storage device. The latest upgrade allows network access and multi-tasking so users can do things like check email or browse the Internet while streaming video. Up to eight devices can now stream content from the drive. Additionally, the battery life has been tested by Seagate to last up to seven hours, an improvement from the tested battery life of five hours before the upgrade.
The upgrade is free. Users can download it here.
