Seagate introduced Backup Plus Slim, hailed by the company as the “world’s thinnest 2TB external hard drive” at just .47 inches thick. In addition to its compact size, the 2TB hard drive will also back up content from a user’s smartphone and social networks.

This is the second generation of external storage from Seagate, and it comes with USB 3.0 technology for faster backups and transfers. The Backup Plus Slim drive lets users set automatically scheduled backups as well as one-click backups.

In addition to backing up content from computers and smartphones, the Backup Slim Plus extends to Facebook and Flickr albums, even backing up tagged Facebook photos. With the included Seagate Dashboard service, users can download and upload media to and from compatible social networking sites and cloud storage sites.

The Seagate Mobile Backup app is free for iOS and Android and will allow users to automatically back up content directly from their mobile device to the Backup Plus Slim drive or a cloud service. When a users’ mobile device is connected to the same network as the 2TB drive, media stored on a mobile device will be wirelessly transferred to the storage device.

The Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB drive is available in red, blue, black and silver and is currently available for purchase through Amazon and The 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models retail for $99.99, $119.99, $179.99, and $299.99 respectively.
