Seagate has announced the impending arrival of the world’s thinnest 2TB mobile hard drive. The Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Slim represents an improvement in design over the existing Backup Plus Slim Drive, shaving more than 2.5mm from its profile and qualifying as half the width of most 2TB drives available today.
Measuring 9.6mm thick, the Backup Plus Ultra Slim folds in Seagate’s 2.5-inch HDD technology and can hold the equivalent of half a million songs, 320,000 photos or 240 hours of high-def video in a pocketable device.
Seagate is also offering 200GB of cloud storage for two years via Microsoft OneDrive with purchase. Lyve software is also included to assist with storage management, providing automatic backup for smartphones and digital cameras. Additionally, the Backup Plus Ultra Slim comes with Seagate Dashboard software which enables one-click or scheduled device backup.
Seagate indicated the Backup Plus Ultra Slim 2TB mobile hard drive will be available in the first quarter of 2016. No pricing information was provided, but is likely to be comparable (if not greater) than the existing Backup Plus Slim, which retails for $129.99. It will be available in optional gold or platinum metal finish.
