Razer, maker extraordinare of high-quality gaming peripherals, has branched out in recent months. At CES, we saw them show off an astonishing new kind of gaming device – half laptop, half…something else entirely, the Razer Switchblade had two touchscreens that gamers could manipulate in order to control their games.
Recently, the company has gone all-out with a new advertising blitz, promising gamers that “PC gaming is not dead.” Well, we certainly agree. So do gamers, if the warm reception with which the ads have been receiving is any indication. Facebook, Twitter and news sites all over the Internet are abuzz with discussion – is the launch of the Switchblade imminent? Is it something else entirely?
Well, we’ll find out soon. Razer took out an enormous ad in the Wall Street Journal, printing something of a manifesto dedicated to PC gaming and calling its gaming console brethren out. At the end of the ad is the URL PCGAMINGISNOTDEAD.COM – going there simply shows an old desktop and a countdown, set to expire on August 26th.
What happens on that date? No one’s sure, yet, and Razer’s keeping mum. According to the ad, however, they’re looking to “bring a new age of openness and innovation to all gaming.” Sign up at the link to be let in when the walls come down, or just come back here in a couple of days to find out what Razer has cooking.
