After an approximately month-long voting process, Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis has officially been crowned the cover athlete for Madden NFL 12, the next entry in Electronic Arts’ blockbuster football game franchise.
Madden NFL 12 will be released on August 30 for Xbox 360 and PS3 and will play host to a number of new features for the franchise, including an updated collision system, custom playbooks, and an all-new rookie scouting system in franchise mode. Gameplay realism will receive a layer of polish as well, with presentation tweaks like 500 dynamic broadcast cameras authentic to each NFL stadium; a player degradation system that affects uniforms and helmets based on weather and field surface; and team-specific run-outs.
The next cover athlete for the wildly popular series was decided by a 32-player, bracket-style election process, which was open to the public and ran from March 21 to April 27. The unprecedented move by EA garnered over 12.7 million votes through ESPN.com’s Sports Nation and eventually narrowed down the 32-candidate playing field to Hillis and Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. Hillis ultimately beat Vick in convincing fashion, gathering 66% of the final vote.
