Panasonic Announces Upgrades for the Semi-Rugged Toughbook 53 Notebook PC

ToughbookPanasonic today announced its newest addition to its semi-rugged notebook line, the Toughbook 53 Notebook PC. The semi-rugged line of is geared towards durability with high performance, often being used in the insurance, construction and military fields.

The second generation Panasonic Toughbook 53 will be much faster, offering a new Intel Core i5 processor that can reach performance speeds up to 3.3GHz thanks to Intel Turbo Boost Technology. The durable notebook will also offer increased storage options including up to 500GB HDD (or optional 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB solid state drives) with 4 to 8GB of RAM. Connectivity will also be a high point of the Toughbook 53 as it will offer two USB 3.0 ports. Additional upgrades include improved battery life delivering 11 hours per charge, optional GPS integration, optional RFID/Contactless SmartCard reader or insertable SmartCard reader.

While the second generation Toughbook will look to add a bunch of new features, it still offers the impressive durability and sustain that consumers expect from the semi-rugged line. The Toughbook 53 passed the MIL-STD-810G tests, which includes surviving 3 foot drops on 26 surfaces with 1 unit. It will also include a spill-resistant keyboard to greater augment the device’s resilience.

Just because the Toughbook is one tough son-of-a-gun, doesn’t mean it has to be a brute. The second generation notebook will offer a high-definition 14-inch LED display with the upgrade option of 2-850 nit sunlight-viewable Panasonic CircuLumin touchscreen and an adjustable backlit emissive keyboard.

The Panasonic Toughbook 53 is available today from authorized Panasonic resellers, with devices starting at $1399. In addition to the durability that the Toughbook 53 offers, it also comes with the reliability of a three year standard limited-warranty.
