Those 256GB drives just not enough space? Today OCZ announced the development of 400 and 480GB solid state drives, new entrants into their Vertex 2 and Agility 2 lineups. The 400GB versions are actually almost identical to the 480GB versions; the latter simply take the extra space designed for longer write lifetimes and make it available for use by the operating system.
Speeds on both drives include a maximum throughput of 250MB/s read and 240MB/s write. The Vertex 2 lineup, with its superior memory controller, also gains faster performance in random writes, with 4k randoms peaking at up to 22,500 IOPS. Each SSD is part of the SATA2 (3Gbps) standard, and will work with both desktop and laptop chassis.
TRIM commands are supported in each new offering via Windows 7, and OCZ ships both with a 3-year limited warranty. While no prices were explicitly stated, the drives are shipping now with early retailers posting prices for the 480GB drives right near $2000.
