We talked earlier about how March would see the release of NVIDIA’s next generation GPUs in the form of the GeForce GTX470 and GTX480. NVIDIA showed off the cards at CeBIT this week, and let out a few more choice details.

The new GTX480, seen above, is looking to be an especially power hungry piece of hardware. Six regulation lines coming from the power supply, and you’ll need a large one to drive it. NVIDIA also made the claim that the new 480 will be faster than competitor ATI’s Radeon HD 5870, especially under OS X’s implementation of OpenCL. Given the special partnership NVIDIA and Apple have enjoyed in recent years, it’s not too surprising to see NVIDIA cater to the Cupertino PC maker. As to whether these claims will stand up, however, we’ll just have to wait a few more weeks.
