Nokia announced that MakerBot will be the official 3D printer partner for their 3D printing community project, the 3D-printing development kit (3DK) that allows users to design and print custom phone cases of the Lumia 820 and newly announced Lumia 520.
The 3DK, originally announced in January, includes files and documents for 3D templates, case specs, recommended materials and best practices. The difference is that MakerBot has taken the mechanical drawings of Nokia Lumia 820 back panel for 3D printing (all parts), mechanical drawings of the Nokia Lumia 820 back shell for 3D printing (STP), and mechanical drawings of the Nokia Lumia 820 back shell for 3D printing (shell separated) and “optimized them” for printing the case on a MakerBot products including the Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer.
The Nokia Lumia 3D printing files are available on MakerBot’s Thingiverse.com and will also be optimized for customization through the MakerBot Thingiverse Customizer.
