Eee PC to go on sale at Target Eee PC to be available at Target

According to a leaked picture from one of our forum members, the ASUS Eee PC will be available at Target next week. It will retail for $349.99 and come with Windows XP. The model is most likely the Eee PC 900, which features an 8.9-inch display, Intel Celeron processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 16GB flash SSD.  See the spy shot of the Eee PC in the Target inventory system below:

AMD splits in two

AMD announced that it will be splitting into two companies: one company will be responsible for designing the processors, and the other manufacturing them. AMD CEO Dirk Meyer said “This is the biggest announcement in our history. This will make us a financially stronger company, both in the near term and in the long term, as a result of being out from the capital expense burden we have had to bear.” Two Abu Dhabi investment groups will be putting at least $6 billion into the two companies.

Dell introduces remote access PC service

Dell launched a new subscription service that allows customers to remotely access their PCs. Its primary use is media file access from the home PC, with file sharing. The only software needed to connect to the home PC via the new service is a web browser.

The service is $9.95/month.

Office Depot now offering PC support

Office Depot announced it is now offering Tech Depot PC support and network installation services. The service is available in-home, in-office, and at retail locations. Services offered include PC tune-ups and repairs, wireless network installation, new software installation, and TV installation.
From October 5 to October 25, Office Depot is offering a free PC Health Check, which determines if the PC needs a tune-up, virus removal, diagnostics, or repair. Services performed will be discounted 50% during the promotional period.

Lenovo adds WiMax to ThinkPads/IdeaPads

Lenovo announced that certain ThinkPad and IdeaPad notebook computers are available with WiMAX wireless connectivity. The ThinkPad X301, T400, SL300, and SL500 are available with the technology immediately. Later this year, WiMAX will be available on the ThinkPad W500, W700, SL400, and X200, as well as the IdeaPad Y530.
