Fujitsu introduces S7211 widescreen notebook

Fujitsu today introduced their latest thin-and-light notebook, the 14-inch widescreen LifeBook S7211. It weighs 5.2 pounds and has a modular bay. Pricing starts at only $899 with a Core 2 Duo processor.
With the modular bay battery, the S7211 can go for up to 6.5 hours unplugged. The modular bay can also take a weight-saver module to reduce travel weight. Other features of the S7211 include a spill-resistant keyboard, integrated webcam and microphone, and wireless LAN.
The LifeBook S7211 is available now through Fujitsu’s online store, starting at $899. It is available with one- or three-year International limited warranties with 24/7 tech support.
OLPC goes into mass production
The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) non-profit organization announced that mass production of the XO laptop has started. Quanta Computer is producing the computers at its new manufacturing plant in Changshu, China. The first XO laptops are slated to be available this month. Current pricing estimates put the cost per unit up around $188 – $200, depending on the volume purchased.
Notebook makers looking to produce low-cost mobile computers
With the recent introduction of Asustek’s Eee PC, notebook makers including Compal and Inventec are looking for a low-cost mobile Internet device (MID) solutions for around $500. The price gap between the Eee PC and a MID from Compal or Quanta would be small, as the highest-end Eee PC will be around $430. The popularity of low-cost mobile computers is not going to trail off anytime soon according to Quanta.
Sony Ericsson intros USB 3G modem with Mac, PC support
Sony Ericcson introduced its new MD300 3G modem today, which has support for HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE, and GPRS. It supports not only Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, but also Mac OS X. Mac support usually is not found in these devices out of the box. The MD300 will probably be available in Q1 2008, but there is no information on whether the device will be available in the U.S.
Asus Eee PC now available in black

The Asus Eee PC was released last week and at that time the only available color was white. However, this week the Eee PC 4G is showing up in stores available with a black color case design. In particular Portable One is now offering this version from their website for the same price as the white version at $399.99.
