Western Digital, a provider of external storage devices, announced today that its external drives will be compatible with Windows 8, and will also help users make the most of their storage. A feature within Windows 8 called File History will be compatible with WD external drives, allowing users to schedule regular backups to external WD storage devices. Windows 8 Storage Spaces will also be supported, a feature that can take multiple storage drives and make them appear as one drive when viewed through Windows 8.
Windows 8 users with a WD storage device can also install the WD app, which will automatically detect photos, videos, and music stored on the device and will display the content via live tiles on the Windows 8 home screen. Users of the Windows 8 WD app will find a feature called Share Charm, which allows users to share content from an external WD drives through email and social media networks. The general manager of WD’s connected life solutions group, Scott Vouri, states “We are excited about delivering a seamless storage experience across the Windows 8 ecosystem to help customers easily protect and enjoy their precious digital content.”
