New Dual-Core Atom Processors Coming?
A rumor is circulating that a new dual-core Intel Atom processor is on the horizon. The Intel Atom is a small, low-powered and inexpensive processor used in netbook computers. Current netbooks use single-core Atom processors.
Supposedly slated for release later this year, the rumored dual-core Atom processor is clocked at 1.5GHz and has a TDP of 8.5W. The TDP number includes the processor and graphics card; this is only about 20% higher than current single-core 1.67GHz Atom processors so it may see widespread netbook adoption.
There is no current release date for this processor; it may launch before the end of the year.
