MSI is officially announcing their new GS70 gaming laptop later today, making the bold claim that it’s the world’s thinnest 17-inch gaming laptop. Of course, if you only include gaming laptops, they’re likely correct – most gaming notebooks are big and bulky, since the average notebook gamer prefers power to portability.
If you could get both in one package, however, who wouldn’t take it? That’s the angle MSI is targeting with the GS70, which includes an Intel Core i7-4700HQ CPU (4th gen, or Haswell) running at 2.4GHz, with a Turbo Boost clock of 3.4GHz. There’s also an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M GPU with 2GB of GDDR5 memory, capable of putting out a 4K video signal – if you’re lucky enough to have one of those dream displays.
The built-in display features an anti-reflective coating and 1920×1080 resolution.
At launch, MSI is only offering two builds of the GS70, with the only differences between them a second SSD and accompanying price increase. Both models offer a backlit SteelSeries keyboard, with multiple backlight colors and anti-ghosting tech. For the audiophiles, MSI is promising a powerful headset amplifier, as well as a built-in 2.1 speaker system.
