Microsoft Shows Off Their Vision of the Future of Gaming: PC, Xbox, Phone

Windows 7 has been a pretty big success for Microsoft, and it’s hard to deny that they’ve managed some pretty cool tricks with the Xbox360. With the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Series, it looks like we’re finally going to see them bring all three platforms together.

At a recent TechEd conference in Dubai, Microsoft’s Eric Rudder showed off a tech demo that really caught everyone by surprise.  He started playing a simple Indiana Jones platform jumping on a phone, moved to the PC and then Xbox, each with the ability to pick up where the last one left off.

It’s pretty impressive stuff, especially when he made the comment that the codebase between all three versions of the game was 90% identical.  While Microsoft has a long way to go in catching up to the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad in terms of number of games, this might make developers stand up and take notice.  It’s a lot easier to justify developing for a system when you only have to make a game once and get three copies out of it!
