When Microsoft unveiled the new Xbox One gaming console, reactions were mixed. While some praised the style, others derided for looking like a Sony 80’s throwback. Everyone seemed to agree, however, that Microsoft was promising to deliver something new with the next Xbox; an experience centered around entertainment as a whole – not just games.
To prove the point, MS neglected to show off much at all about the games that customers could look forward to running on the Xbox One later this fall, merely promising that more about the games would be shown off at the upcoming E3 conference in Los Angeles. The move led some to wonder how dedicated Microsoft was to the actual games; Sony took the opportunity to publicly proclaim its dedicated to gaming first on the PlayStation 4.
It seems like there’s no need to worry, however, as Microsoft has come out and said that they’re investing a whopping $1 billion sum into games for the Xbox One. That includes financing new games from new studios, while at the same time paying well-known studios for high-profile exclusives for the Xbox. It’s certainly more than the company has spent on such an effort to date.
As a result, the Xbox One will have something on the order of 15 exclusives from Microsoft within its first year, among which are eight entirely new franchises. Combined with the games MS did reveal at its Xbox debutante ball, and the upcoming look from E3, Xbox One gamers are shaping up to have an exciting first year with the new console.
