Today Marvell released their new SheevaPlug PC, a diminutive computer no bigger than most wall warts that power modern digital devices.

The SheevaPlug offers the following specifications:

  • Marvell’s Kirkwood System-on-Chip with 1.2GHz ARM-based Sheeva CPU
  • 512MB flash storage
  • 512MB RAM
  • 1 x USB2.0 port for hard drives or other USB peripherals
  • Gigabit ethernet
  • Mini USB, SDIO interfaces offer quick debugging access

The novel devices support linux distributions running the 2.6 kernel or later.  Designed for always-on applications, such as web servers, email, or VPN, the SheevaPlug uses less than 5 watts of power under typical usage.  Paired with the affordable $99 price tag and rapid deployment and development possibilities, it’s easy to see how these little machines might be used.
