Digital imaging research specialist, Lyra Research, released four new reports that provide worldwide forecast data and analysis for the ink jet and laser printer markets.
The four reports from Lyra’s Hard Copy Industry Advisory Service include: Inkjet Printers and All-in-Ones: Worldwide Forecast, 2007-2014; Monochrome Laser Printers: Worldwide Forecast, 2007-2014; Color Laser Printers: Worldwide Forecast, 2007-2014; and Impact Printers: Worldwide Forecast, 2007-2014.
The Inkjet Printers and All-in-Ones (AIO) report examines how the inkjet printer market is maturing and why there are fewer new PC and printer placement opportunities. Looking for new market opportunities vendors in this market segment are turning their attention to advances in social networking and mobile devices although the report authors note that it will take time for the mobile printing infrastructure to be put in place.
While the overall market for monochrome and color printers is rebounding, ships of these devices isn’t expected to reach pre-recession levels. The biggest surge in this space is in inkjet AIOs with the greatest demand coming from the SOHO market.
Faring less well is the monochrome laser printer market, according to Lyra’s Monochrome Laser Printer report, which reports a decline in revenue for all monochrome laser printer segments through 2014.
On a brighter note, the market for color laser printers according to the Color Laser Printers: Worldwide Forecast, 207-2014 report, is expected to improve as the recession ends and vendors develop new products, pricing strategies and applications that enable small and medium-size businesses (SMBs) to realize the benefits of producing very short-run color print jobs in-house.
Lyra researchers report that strong competition from ink jet and MFP devices for color printing in office environments and the perception among users that monochrome output is adequate for most applications is expected to impact this market segment’s moderate growth.
The market for impact printers, such as serial impact and line-impact dot matrix printers, will continue to diminish, according to the Lyra report on Impact printers: Worldwide Forecast, 2007-2014.
