The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is one of our favorite keyboards. The razor-thin profile, laptop-style keys and backlight illumination offers a fantastic user experience for any activity that doesn’t require macro keys. The new K800 takes that concept and finally makes it wireless. Hooray!
The reason that wireless keyboards have shied away from illuminated keys in the past has been, simply put, the excessive drain it causes on battery life. Logitech thinks that they’ve solved that problem through a combination of sensors, switches and optional cords.
A light sensor on the upper-right side of the unit measures ambient light and if the conditions are bright enough, it’ll dim or even turn the backlight off entirely. Similarly, a built-in motion sensor automatically enables the backlight when your hands get close to type and turns it back off if you move away.
There’s also a hard on/off switch if you don’t plan on using the keyboard for an extended period of time and wish to conserve energy. If the battery gets low, an included micro-USB cable can be plugged in for a quick recharge – while the keyboard is being used.
The Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 is expected to start shipping later this month with an MSRP of $99.99.
